STEVE VOELLMECKE - HEAD COACH
Steve Voellmecke was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH and has been involved with the sport
of diving for nearly 35 years – first as a diver, now as a coach, judge and volunteer. Steve
graduated from Moeller High School in 1984 and went on to earn his degree in Business
Management from Xavier University in 1988. He was a member of the XU Swimming and Diving
Team all four years and was team captain his senior year.
Steve is a Life Member of USA Diving; a Trustee of the United States Diving Foundation;
Treasurer of The United States Professional Diving Coaches Association and is on the
Executive Board for the ambitious Aquatic Training Center project here in Cincinnati. Steve was
USA Team Leader for the 2000 FINA World Cup in Sydney, Australia and the 1996 Can-Am-
Mex J.O. International Meet in Winnipeg, Canada. He was chosen “first alternate” to be the USA
Diving Team Leader for the 2000 Olympic Games. Steve also was CO-Meet Director for the
memorable and highly successful 1996 U.S. National Diving Championships held at Miami
University in Oxford, OH.
In 1998, Steve was presented with the prestigious "WHOSAM" Award given annually to the
Diving Coach who "demonstrates commitment to excellence and dedication to the highest
physical, mental and spiritual ideals." This award is presented by Dr. Sammy Lee M.D. – 1948
and 1952 Olympic Gold Medalist -- and the person responsible for introducing "The Sammy”
Sport Towel to the diving world!
Steve is also a highly respected diving judge. He is F.I.N.A. (international) certified; was the
only judge selected to judge both the 2008 AND 2012 United States Olympic Diving Trials; has
judged the NCAA Championships (2007 - 2014); several international diving competitions
around the world as well as many Collegiate Championships including the Big 10, SEC and
PAC-12 Conferences. In addition, Steve has served as referee and judge at countless Summer
League Diving Meets all across the Greater Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky area over the past
30 years.
Although Steve has coached divers at the State, National and International Levels, his first love
is teaching diving at the Grassroots Level. He has coached the summer diving team at The
Indian Hill Club since 1985 (30 years and counting!) and helped to design the diving well at the
Club's spectacular new pool built in 2008.
Steve's "real job" is Owner and President of Springboards and More (A Division of DIVE
Cincinnati, Inc.) – the perennial largest Dealer of Duraflex Diving Equipment in the United States
and the Preferred Equipment Supplier to USA Diving.
Steve lives in Loveland, OH with his twins Aidan and Simone – his very active and involved
twins who were born on Valentine’s Day 2001. The other member of the Voellmecke Family is
“Pennie Lane” – a Yellow Labrador Retriever who will do just about anything for a Frozen
Peanut Butter-filled Kong!
PIPER FRIES - ASSISTANT COACH
It looks to be another GREAT season of summer diving as long time Wahoo favorite PIPER FRIES
becomes the fifth former Wahoo Diver to ascend to the ranks of Assistant Diving Coach. Piper is
finishing up her senior year at Indian Hill High School where she was Captain of the State Qualifier
Soccer Team and was involved in countless other Clubs, Organizations and volunteer activities
throughout her high school career.
She will attend Miami University in the Fall.
Piper has been a Wahoo diver since she was 6 years old, winning many blue ribbons and several

She is idolized and adored by the young divers and she brings an infectious energy and enthusiasm
with her that will no doubt help lead The Wahoos to another successful season. In addition, Piper is
leading the group of Wahoo divers who are planning, implementing and running the 2016 Seven Hills
